RALPHION

ABOUT RALPHION

Born in Saint Louis. MO in the year of the purple rain (1984) Ralphion was cultivated on music his dad was an accomplished bassist and his mom is a singer she has acted in plays playing such roles as Harriet Tubman. So as he says “this music shit is genetic!” In 1991 his mom noticed that her son started taking on the mind of the misguided young man from the Cocherin and Blum projects. So she decided to move herself an child to Washington to give her son a better out look in life. Unfortunately the place was infested with the same Violence and Cocaine epidemic. He got a broader look on the constant attack on ghetto's all across america. But the young man could only resist so much. Ralphion became a troubled youth with foul language to such a level that the state suggested that because he was so out of control that State got involved and resulted to being taken from his mother. He recalls one gloomy morning his mother was in tears praying over his bed and asked him "what can I do, they are trying to take you away from me" he said put me in the studio" August 15th 1998 He went in the studio for the 1st time, it changed his life forever. In 2001 the weekend after September 11th 2001 Ralphion entered a rap showcase at Howard University hosted by Bad Boy Records and Rapper G-Dep the performance Ralphion gave wowed the crowd, the 17 year old was well on his way until Bad Boy Records parted ways with G-Dep and associates. Crushed but yet still hungry for suceess and in need of such a break, he then came out to Compton California to visit his brother and sister. In his words "I knew Saint Louis and DC were poisoned with crack and violence but when I saw the same poison in L.A. I instantly got hit with a realization and there’s no coincidence of why our people behave the way they do. Ralphion changed his thinking process and of course with that came lyrical growth. He was asked “who inspires you in entertainment?” he smiled took a deep breath and said “MICHAELJACKSON, 2PAC, DMX, BILL WITHERS, MARVIN GAYE, BABYFACE. R.KELLY, RICHARD PRYOR, DAVE CHAPPELLE. MARTIN LAWRENCE and EDDIE GRIFFIN!”He was also asked “ as a music composer and producer who inspired you on the production level?” TEDDY RILEY, DR. DRE, KAY-GEE, JERMAINE DUPRI, IRV GOTTI, QUINCY JONES, R.KELLY AND BABYFACE. You have two controversial songs one of them being a tune called S.M.H. (shakin' my head) what is the inspiration behind them " Well shakin my head was written after a wild day in Compton me an my brother were walking to get some Louis Burger when we got banged on by Leuders Park Piru immediately after that the police harassed us using some racial slurs with their guns pulled ready to fire. The 3rd verse was created upon america's fight for gay rights but constant abuse upon the African americans. LETZ GO was written in Compton by me an my friend the late David Eutsy. It begins with a clip from the 90's California classic film "Menace Il Society" I chose it after me, my brother an cousin were thrown upon a police car by the L.A. County sheriffs with their guns drawn as they verbally insulted us yet again! By this time I'd had enough an when eutz came with the hook, it was on!” Last that he was asked , “what do you want the outcome of your music to be?” “I want my music to bring peace to the ghetto. It’s what raised me. But I hate how we’re so impoverished with the unnecessary violence and drugs. I feel like there are so many sides to a human being an I represent them all in my life and music. You can party with me, cry with me, think with me and ride with me, my music is gospel, soul. rhythm and blues, rock, soft rock and of course hip-hop.
